Huyixiang Community (Huyi Community) was established in 2022 by a group of experienced educators with backgrounds in academic teaching, educational technology, and the professional development of university staff in Learning and Teaching. By connecting higher education institutions across China and the ASEAN region with EdTech partners and international academic networks, Huyi Community seeks to strengthen the capacity of educators and researchers to design, implement, and evaluate meaningful technology-enhanced learning experiences in open source environments and to contribute to the digital transformation of higher education institutions across Asia and beyond.
A central component of the Community's activities is Huyixiang
EduSpace™, a flexible digital learning and experimentation environment
built on Moodle and designed to support integration with a range of
complementary technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI),
virtual reality (VR), simulations, and other digital learning tools.Through individual creator accounts, participating educators and
researchers can design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning
prototypes within a shared digital environment. This approach enables
members to move beyond the exchange of ideas toward practical
experimentation, allowing emerging pedagogical approaches and
technologies to be tested in authentic educational contexts.
At the core of Huyi Community's value proposition is its function as a scholarly and practice-oriented network for educational innovation. It provides an environment in which educators, researchers, instructional designers, technology specialists, and institutional partners can exchange knowledge, develop collaborative initiatives, and engage in practice-based and research-informed experimentation in digital learning. Members are provided with access to the Huyi Community Portal, through which they can consult shared resources, participate in collaborative activities, follow ongoing projects, and connect with other members of the network. Huyi Community Portal supports knowledge exchange and community engagement, while providing visibility to learning prototypes, research activities, events, and collaborative projects developed within Huyi Community.
The environment therefore serves not only as a technological platform, but also as an infrastructure supporting co-creation, practice-based research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional development. Learning prototypes can be progressively developed, evaluated, refined, and shared with other members of the community, contributing to the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge about technology-enhanced learning practices. The mentorship approach is intended to strengthen participants' capacity to translate educational challenges into structured research and development initiatives. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, responsible experimentation with emerging technologies, and the dissemination of findings through scholarly publications, conferences, workshops, and community-based knowledge-sharing activities.
Through the combination of a scholarly community, a collaborative digital infrastructure, and mentorship-based professional development, Huyi Community and Huyixiang EduSpace™ seek to provide an ecosystem in which educational innovation can be co-created, tested, evaluated, and disseminated, while fostering sustained collaboration among higher education institutions, researchers, educators, students, EdTech specialists, and other relevant stakeholders.
Huyi Community is a non-profit initiative led by Huyixiang (Shanghai) Technology Management Consulting Co., Ltd., a privately held company registered in Shanghai, People's Republic of China.
